We have just released a new version of Jason, version 2.0! The main new features are:

- support for modules and namespaces
- concurrent courses of actions within a single plan and advanced concurrent agent architectures

The error in the jcm is that the current syntax obliges a break line between { and }

yes, we can use this list also for jacamo projects (since jacamo is highly related to jason).

It seems there are two problems in your application:

1. the starting of the environment web interface (it is related to the stack trace you sent). For some reason the Java installation can not get the local IP address — and I am not an expert on that to help you (maybe you can find something using google). However, it has no consequences for your application, just the environment web interface is not running.

agent capture { ag-bb-class: jason.bb.TextPersistentBB }

however, it is recognized only when written as

agent capture { ag-bb-class: jason.bb.TextPersistentBB
}  or
agent capture { 
       ag-bb-class: jason.bb.TextPersistentBB
}

when you create a new jacamo project, the .jcm file has comments on how to configure each part. In the case of the agents, we will find:

The command as you used seems all right! In order to identify the problem

1) could you try it without the third argument (the agent architecture) and see if it works

2) ensure that the variable UserName has an assigned value

3) ensure that the file studentAssistant.asl is in the project folder (or src/asl folder; or in a folder listed in aslSourcePath)

indeed logical programming is “bizarre” initially and vars car not change their values, they are more like mathematical variables. 

if you want do to something with all members of a list that have condition c, you can write:

	for( .member(I,List) & c(I) ) {
	   …. process I …
        }

for instance, suppose the list has numbers and you want to print those greater than 20:

	for( .member(I,List) & I > 20 ) {
	   .print(I);
        }


the for in Jason iterates on all solutions for the query that is given as parameter.

I am trying to loop inside a list, but I want to use "while" instead of "for" loop because I want the loop stops if it finds a member that satisfied some criteria.Before I do that, I have tried to code a plan to find out how "while" behaves in Jason as follows:
+!test_while : true <- L = [1,2,3]; .length(L,Len); I = 0; while (I < Len) {
 .nth(I,L,X); .print(X); I = I + 1; // this causes an error }.
 Unfortunately, when I run the code, it gives me the following error:

I don’t know RinSim, but since it is written in Java it should be simple to integrate it with Jason. 

The simplest integration is by either jason or cartago environments, they will map the simulation data and methods into perception and actions for the agents.

(/usr/share/java/jason). It works from there, but has strange
behaviour - it always notifies of available updates and has version
0.3a in ~/.jason/user.properties. When run from other directory, it
works fine.

it will save the beliefs, rules and plans of the agent into the file x.asl. Optionally, you can include initial goals:

	.save_agent(“x.asl”, [say(hello)] ); // it includes !say(hello) in x.asl
	…

to use this new internal action, replace your jason.jar by the one available at

this error means that jason could not parse the number of threads. Usually it should look like:

	….
	Centralised(pool,4)   // 4 threads (usually we put the number of cores of the machine)
	….

yes, you can override this method for special cases of end of cycle, like that you describe below.
(see the source src/jason/environment/TimeSteppedEnvironment.java for more details).

Otherwise, I can provide you a new implementation of jason where there will be a method like setTimeOut, that you can use to decrease the initial timeout.

With your help, I have implemented my project for certain number of agents
:-).
But when I tried to increase number of agents, I faced some issues. I
increased heap size and some other adjustments in code, but I wasn't very
successful. 
My project involves medium to large amount of communication between the
agents. Right now, I am able to execute about 1500 agents.
I have two questions:

1) I came to know about 'pool' configuration from demos, but when I try to
us that, I get this error: 

[RunCentralisedMAS] Created 200 agents.
[RunCentralisedMAS] Error getting the number of thread for the pool. 

and my simulation does not proceed. Without 'pool' configration, it runs
alright. You can see that here I tried only for 200 agents, and still it
threw this error.

2) My second question is, I am using time stepped environment and I am using
timeout ( like 5000 ms) for each step. But this is not best solution since
in my simulation, in first step there is relatively large amount of
processing and then it is comparatively less in subsequent steps, so this
standard time out for each step is a overhead. Can something be done about
it. Does it have something to do with testEndCycle?

I don’t think there is a bug in the .member internal action, since it is used quite a lot.

Could it be the case that the name N is a string? (the values in L are atoms an atoms are not equal to strings.

For instance, 
	.member(“bob”, [alice,bob])
is false.

If that is the case, you can use .term2string to change the type of N.

loop like this:

i.e. messages are sent to agent1, agnet2 and so on.

I have some requirement in which is need to remove the agents from
simulation. I do that using .kill_agent.
But now, since some agents have been removed from simulation, .send throws
up an error.
I tried solving it using it .all_names(L). If (.member(N,L)), then send the
messages, this way each time, message would be sent only to the agents
actually present.
But .member(N,L) doesn't work for me. N & L has correct values, I have
checked them using .print.
Can you tell me the reason and possible workaround for this problem.
