Installing on a Dell Laptop?

I have several old laptops laying around. I decided to load this on two for my band mates. I tried this on two different Dell Laptops and neither one would work properly after the install. Both seemed to have issues authenticating after user and password info was entered. They seem to go into some kind of login loop when the correct credentials are entered and keep bringing you back to the login prompt. What is strange is they are very different machines with very different ages. One has an i5 Processor and works with a full ubuntu OS and Jamulus installed. Seemed to install to a Toshiba just fine. Thoughts?

For login loop issues, type Ctrl+Alt+F3, at terminal login, if your password is correct, all is well, then at prompt type startx, then you have to see your desktop in a few time. If you do not see the desktop then it will hopefully print an error message to go further in the investigation.

Thanks.  I entered Ctrl+Alt+F3 and got to the terminal login. Entered my
user name and password and pressed enter.  Some text came up on the
screen and disapeard too quickly for me to do anything and again brought
me back to the terminal prompt for my user name.  now it is looping in
      the terminal windows.

as it's looping at shell login without starting x, it is not a graphical problem.

Have you start your computers with the same media (usb stick). if it"s the case then it is likely that you have disk errors on your media or image you downloaded.

you can check your downloaded image against the md5 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM :

        md5sum yourimage.iso

then compare the result to the yourimage.md5 content. ( you will find it in the download section). if your image is not correct, download it again until the check is ok. Once ok, recreate the usb stick with the checked iso image.

you can also "check disc for defects" from boot menu of your usb live.
if the check was unsuccessfull then try another media as it maybe corrupted
