I'm going on vacations for the next few days, so i won't be reachable. If you want to give the game a try, fetch it from my user directory on sf's= =20 shell server: shell.sourceforge.net:/home/users/m/mo/monomer/D20ME I would like to hear what you think about it. (this may include thinking it= 's=20 crap) Greetings, dimitri. About the game: it's pretty much a "standard" dungeon game like NetHack or Diablo 1-- of course simpler. The players goal is to explore the dungeon , kill monsters, collect treasuries, gain experience, etc. Dungeon levels (with monsters, items and other features like stairs up/down or fountains) are generated randomly. The player can choose between 3 character types: a warrior, a valkyrie, or a wizard. Stats are generated randomly too, and increased with experience. Development status: - graphical stuff (isometric tilemap) is done. - Map generating algorithm semi-done (draws rooms, but doesn't place monsters/objects) - visibility (witch tiles the player can see, depending on opaqueness of walls, etc) done, but ugly. - rules not done. - system routines (savegames & settings) not done. One of the main difficulties of developing this is of course the limited resources, the midp 1.0 offer. Specificaly my nokia 3100 allows for a maximum jar size of 64kB, witch isn't very much. It's almost filled with graphics only. (some tiles + monsters + objects). Btw, tiles are taken from the falcon's eye project, a graphical nethack frontend. I haven't ask for permission from the copyright owner yet, but since the game is open source, that shouldn't be a problem, i think. > I would love to hear more about the game and also more about you (where > you are from etc), so why don't you write a bit about that and send it > to the Jamos mailing list? > About me: I'm Swiss, but currently living in Santiago, Chile. The problem with the current graphics is that they are standard png files, so they aren't scale-able using MIDP1. So when we release it we will have to release one version for each screen resolution that is out there, ie. one for 128x128, one for 128x96 etc... It would probably be better to create the graphics in code. That way we can scale it to whatever resolution the phone uses. But the graphics would probably have to be a lot simpler than they are currently. What do you all think? Cheers, tomas |

I think we should add some kind of multiplayer to Jamtris. The only kind of tetris multiplayer I have tried is where your screen gets filled up by the lines that your opponent removes from his screen (if that makes sense), but I have heard about some tetris variant where you see your opponents blocks at the top of your screen and you fill the entire screen from both ends, so to speak. don't know how that works though, anyone tried anything like that? Has anyone played with J2ME bluetooth support? Not sure how many phones support that. Otherwise network play over a server should be ok... What do you all think? Cheers, tomas |

Hi All! Sorry for the lack of activity recently, I'm working on my Masters Thesis right now which is eating up all my time. But just because I'm busy doesn't mean you can't do some Jamos work...:) I have updated the task list with tasks for Jamtris and the Pac man game. If you want to work on any of these tasks, reply to the mailing list and tell us what task you're working on, so we don't duplicate efforts. Don't worry about the dates in the task list. They don't mean anything. Task list is here: http://sourceforge.net/pm/?group_id=3D116914 Here is the status for the Jamos projects: Jamtris I uploaded version 0.4 today which has sound effects, fullscreen support on Nokia and MIDP2 phones and fixes various problems. From this version on we're using J2MEPolish (http://j2mepolish.org) for the build process. This makes it easy to create several seperate versions of the application with only a single codebase. You don't have to use it to be able to run Jamtris from source, but if you want to build all different versions you need it. There are currently two Jamtris tasks in the task list: Highscore list (instead of just a single high score, should have top 10 or so) and resuming of game, so you can exit the game and continue later. If someone would like to add some graphical effects, for example when you remove a line of blocks, that would be swell too. PacMan Babos has sent me a few patches to the current code which I have just uploaded to CVS. I especially like the new animation when Pacman dies...:) If you want to run Pacman you need to download all graphics from here: http://jamos.sf.net/pacman.res.tar.gz I have added all tasks I think we need to sort before we can release a first version of PacMan. D20ME (the mazes of micromenace) This is a possible future project. Dimitri Polym=E9ris will hopefully join us soon and tell us more about it...:) JamRPS This is something I have been playing around with and might upload to CVS. It's a Rock-Paper-Scissors game inspired by the game on the frontpage here: http://www.eyezmaze.com/ (you need flash to play it) Obviously, we should add multiplayer support in the future. Reply with any thoughts and especially about what tasks you want to work on= ... Cheers, tomas |
