Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi I'm busy getting jal developement to work on OS X. First problem was that configure can't find malloc.h. This is a common problem and can be solved by copying malloc.h from /usr/include/objc to /usr/include, so configure can find it. This might be added to configure, but I don't know how. You can get CVS for OS X from Apple's developers site. It is on the free Developers CD. http://developer.apple.com/tools/index.html You'll have to register, though. -- Ir. Dear developers The two things you can download on the summary page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jal/ are both jal.c, while one is called "jal manual?" Should one of them be removed? -- Ir. Hi developers I added a lot of files to the JAL package, all of them come from Craig Franklin. They help in generating RPM's and in compiling JAL for Posix (Unix/Linux/FreeBSD/ect) operating systems. If all goes well, users can download automatically generated distributions from the JAL page on sourceforge. The developers have a lot more files to wade through, though. But all the libraries are added now too and soon we will release beta's to test on different PIC's. This means we can work on the new PIC-specific files too. -- Ir. Hi, I just subscribed to this mailing list. A brief intro: Although I'm not a JAL user (yet) I want to monitor JAL developments for the following reasons: (1) I program mainly in C. Maybe I'll switch to JAL in the future. I'm still a beginner with PICs and I have only small programs. But when my current developments in C for PICs (with CC5X and CC8E) reach the demo-limit of these compilers and I would be forced to buy a license for a C compiler. (2) Sometimes I need the JAL compiler to experiment with Wisp628. I have developed my own variant of XWisp (written in C) and want to be able to make and test changes in the Wisp628 firmware. (3) I run OS/2 on my PC's and I want to make sure it will remain possible to generate an OS/2 executable of the JAL compiler. So I'll probably not participate in developping the JAL language. I'll be mainly interested in maintaining cross-platform compatibility (I have plans for Linux too). So far my intro, if you didn't know already!
