Yay. Nice to know there's someone else out there. I want to get jabber support going, also. In fact, last time I played with the code I actually got it to connect to jabber- it was ugly and a total hack, but it did connect. Didn't manage to send or receive messages, though. I guess that's what I'll go after first. On Sep 2, 2009, at 7:28 AM, inv...@co... wrote: > Hey Chris... Hey Chris... I've never contributed to jaimbot either, but I did join the interest list because I thought the concept was cool. Been on the list for a year or so, and have never seen any activity. The reason I didn't contribute is that I am looking for a bot that supports sametime or jabber, rather than just AOL-- particularly jabber. I've been thinking of enterprise uses for such a bot, but my company uses jabber, not AOL. Have fun with it, and let us know if you modify and contribute back to JAIMBOT. Hi, I downloaded the jaimbot source via anonymous cvs access. I don't have experience with maven, but have been reading aobut it. Maven suggestes a standard project structure, that is not adheard to with the jaimbot source tree. Also, the maven documentation indicates there should be a .pom file, but I don't see one. Can someone give me a hint on how to correctly compile jaimbot? Thanks, Rich |

I don't believe there is an option in the protocol for that, but what you could do is run a second screenname and add your first screenname as a buddy. Then before you log on your original bot, you ask the second bot if the first is online. Scott ----- Original Message ---- From: "Fumo, Vincent" <Vin...@ca...> To: jai...@li... Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2007 8:50:59 AM Subject: [Jaimbot-developers] secondary logons I'm running the bot (and client) quite nicely on the QA box of our development environment, however we have a semi automated process to move our code to our PROD environment.. this leads to a state where I have 2 versions of the code running on 2 different servers at the same time. I would like to add an option to the config file that would basically not allow the bot to log on to a screenname if it (the screenname) is already logged on somewhere else. I don't know the protocol so I don't know if AOL sends a message during logon to this effect. How would I accomplish this? thanks ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML. Hi. Have just built & deployed an app using jaimbot. (name of bot is "KayakBot"). Using the JAIMbot package was a joy :) Anyone have thoughts on how to set the bot's buddy icon? The bot can run o= n any one of several linux boxes in a production environment. While on the topic ... I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has experience with JAIMbot and high-volume situations. Right now, we have a single instance of the bot which handles connections in threads. The scale of our other products is thousands of unique users per hour ... any thought= s on JAIMbot load balancing? Thanks. |

When you connect to toc.oscar.aol.com port 23, the first thing it does is tell it to connect to login.oscal.aol 5190 for you. This code works. You may be experiencing a recent problem with AOL's DNS entries. They have recently introduced false IPs, and if you happen to get one of those when the code tries to connect it will fail. Keep trying and see if it eventually works. In the forthcoming release I have code to work around this problem (I can send it to you if you think you need it now). If it "never" connects, you may have a firewall problem. Are you able to make arbitrary out going socket connections from your host? I get an OperationTimedOut when trying to use the EchoExample. I looked a= t the source and it = istrying to connect too toc.oscar.aol.com port 23. Should this not be login.oscal.aol @ port = 5190? How do i change this? |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi! I just want to drop a note that I downloaded JAIMBot last night and am very happy with the quality of the jaim code base. I had been using an irc / imirc solution to run a dinky little custom bot for AIM written in perl. The bot was being disconnected from the AIM server at least once a day, so I was looking around for something better. I very much appreciate the simplicity and robustness of jaim, and I'm glad you guys included the bare-bones EchoExample code. It was downright simple for me to slightly tweak that example to invoke my existing perl script and forward its output. The best part is that I didn't have to sift through the jaim code base to start using jaim -- which is definitely the exception, not the rule, as far as these things go. I was so inspired, I thought I might try to expose the bot through Yahoo Messenger, as well. The couple of YMsg libraries I found don't approach the ease of use of jaim. Top notch stuff, thanks guys, Cory |

Whoever is out there and can answer my questions please feel free to reply! I just have a couple basic questions (and a couple other ones...). OK, I was wondering if the Bot automatically re-connects, cause I *think* I've had it get stuck on the socket/crash and not re-connect...which was VERY annoying, as I had yet to figure out the megahaladmin save command :). I suppose, as with all things learning this will take time. My question is for this, if I wait long enough should the bot re-connect? I know I'm not giving much information, and I will if requested....well first I have to re-create what happens. How am I supposed to get the bot to save all its information? Persist? And how should I shut it down? I know when it got the socket thing, and logged off I coulnd't save the information, did a ctrl-c restarted it and all users gone etc. BTW I found persist as I was looking throught source code (not well documented? at least I couldn't find anything on saving settings...maybe I'm just blind)....as I said I'm still learning. So, should I just very often do persist and megahaladmin save... When adding a user that has spaces in his screename, should I just leave the spaces out? Thanks for the best open source bot for AIM I could find! The best thing is it runs on all platforms! Great job! This is the EXACT thing I was looking for before! I had tried to code my own, using an ALICE bot and Perl for most of the coding...it worked but it wasn't very intelligent. THen I switched to a modular design, and started adding commands etc., then I found this...and I was blown away - I especially like multi-platform capabilities! Thanks for allowing downloads of source code as well! -Wolf |

Hello developers, I am interested in helping out with the development of the jaimbot project. I have already developed a module for the jaim bot and have it running on my machine... if desired i will gladly integrate it into the jaimbot source tree (it require 1 or 2 minor modifications to the BotModule.java code). Other than the minor code change it is a standalone module that can be loaded via the config just like any other module, and allows the admin to add users, send/view messages, reminders, preferences, and (although not yet implemented) i am planning to allow the user to configure the xml file via the gui. Let me know if this module is of interest to the project. and let me know what i can do to integrate the code. thanks Dylan AIM:darkmadda email:dy...@ca... |

Hello- I'm just starting to look at the code for JaimBot, and I was wondering if anyone knew where the source code for MegaHal is? I've searched for it on the internet, but haven't found anything. There is a MegaHal project on sourceforge, but it isn't a java project. I'd like to be able to see its source code without having to decompile the .class files, but I'll do that if I have to. Thanks, Joshua |

I just released version 1.2 of the Java AIM Library and Java AIM Bot. These should be usable for the general public now, documentation is soon to come to the website. Scott |
