No

In my use case I am alternatingly working in several projects with separate bib files. Each of these files needs a different main external file directory (on our shared file server) to be set, so I have to change it back and forth.

(Our workaround could be not to use the "main external file directory" JabRef setting at all,
but this introduces a lot of redundancy in the bib files.)

In recent versions of JabRef, try the following steps:

    1. Right click on tab
    2. Click on "Database properties"
    3. Click on "Browse" next to "General file directory"
    4. Select the file directory specific to the current bib file
    5. Click "Open"
    6. Click "OK"

Now, a separate main dir is set for the .bib file.

Does that solve your issue or did you mean something else?
