    Hi there,

I'd like to start with a data bank for literature (having an overview over all documents/titles I own as pdf documents and/or real books). I then want to combine each entry with the relating pdf document. I also want to give another person access to this bibliography and(!) the pdf documents so that he can use the list as I do.

Is this all possible with JabRef?

    Kind regards

Yes. Quick thing: Create a new data base. Right click on the tab: Database properties. Set "General file directory" to ".". Then the PDFs are stored along with the .bib file.

If you drag'n'drop a PDF onto the preview entry (or in General -> File), a dialog pops up asking whether you want to rename the PDF. I say "Move file to file directory" and let "Rename file to" checked.

For sharing, you have to use external tools like syncthing, BTsync, dropbox, svn, git / github.

      HTH

Hello Oliver Kopp - thank you very much.

An error occurs: When drag'n'drop the PDF on the preview entry, first I have:

"Import metadata from: FILENAME.pdf" - Choose the source for the metadata import.
After chosing "Create blank entry linking the pdf" I get to choose Entry types, finally I have "File directory is '.': Checked is "Move file to file directory." and "Rename file to: .pdf".

The error is: "There was an error moving the file. Please move the file manually and link in place."

    What should I do?

My suggestion is to create the entry manually and then attach the file. I don't use the metadata routine, because it was unreliable for me. In future versions, we might work on that feature, but currently, we don't plan it for the next phase.
