Is it possible to add icons for external files? I would love to have something to disambiguate office files, word/excel/powerpoint.
I know I can't do it directly in JabRef, but it is possible to add them in some directory?

You could try the latest development snapshot available at http://builds.jabref.org/master/. It should have icons for Word etc. already built in. Please provide feedback :)

I don't have java 8 installed yet, but as soon I have time to do so, I will test it for sure!
