#904 jabref and google chrome interference

I am running Jabref 2.6 on Ubuntu 9.10 with Java 1.6.0_20. I am behind a firewall but I get http directly, ftp via proxy. I noticed that web search stopped working a while ago and today I found a stable solution: If I set 'direct internet connection' in Google Chrome, web search on Jabref works again. If I set FTP proxy in Google chrome correctly, web search stops working and I get the message:

So there seems to be an issue with SOCKS proxy but this is nowhere set.This is stable and reversible behavior. I tried changing proxy settings anywhere I could find and google chrome was the only place that it seems to work (interfere).

Also, with correct FTP proxy settings in Chrome and failing web search on local instance of Jabref i run Jabref through web start and there web search did work.
