The "Open folder" feature" does not always work.
Right click on an entry (having a valid link to a file) and select "Open folder".
It works when the database file defines a specific general folder.
It does not work when only the default general folder is defined (Options -> Preferences)
Tested on JabRef 2.11b3 and on the branch dev_2.11)
Additionnaly, the "Open folder" menu should be grayed out for entry without link to a file (i.e. empty field File).
Hi fdar,
works for me in 2.11b3 and dev_2.11 on a Windows machine if the link is valid.
However, I have a suspicion what might cause the problem:
Is the setting "Use the bib file location as primary file directory" selected?
If so, please uncheck this setting and try again.
If this does not help some more questions:
Are you sure that the file is actually present in the defined directory?
Are you using the Field "Main file directory" in "External programs" to set the default directory?
Which OS are you using?

Yes! That makes sense.

Hi Matthias.
The setting "Use the bib file location as primary file directory" was already unselected.
Yes: it opens when I click on the PDF icon.
Yes, and it is the proper path.
Linux Mint LMDE
Looking in more details in the entries, my database there are 2 kinds of file links:
1) File = {Yan10.pdf:Yan10.pdf:PDF},
and
2) File = {Appels11.pdf:home/userme/Documents/Biblio/online/Appels11.pdf:PDF},
(both PDF files are in the same folder)
Type 1 opens.
Type 2 does not.
Looking at Type 2, a "/" seems missing (it should start with "/home").
Since I never edit by hand the File field, could a JabRef may have forgotten the slash?
Well, looks like bug #211 https://sourceforge.net/p/jabref/bugs/211/
Should the bug #211 be reopened?
Can you try again? It should be fixed in the latest dev builds: http://builds.jabref.org/master/
