Adium recently split out their URL detection code as a framework: <http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/AutoHyperlinksFramework>. iTerm has gotten pretty good at url recognition again, but still misses things from time to time or chops the URL off too short. The Adium library seems to handle the corner cases well, and shifts keeping it working off the main iTerm developers.
