Hi folks,

The FAQ has an entry about how xterm modes handle the cursor keys specially depending on whether or not the terminal is in "application mode". There's a great feature in mrxvt that I've been missing since switching to iTerm and I think it's related to this. With mrxvt you can set bindings that only work when the session is in normal mode. This means you can set PgUp/PgDown to scroll the viewport in normal mode but generate escape sequences when in application mode. The result? PgUp/PgDown *always* work properly! No more holding down shift here but not there or accidentally scrolling up out of your 'less' session. It's hard to understand how greatly this simplifies things until you've tried it.

It would be great if we could specify different bindings for application mode vs. normal mode. That way I could implement my "perfect pgup/dn" and the existing cursor key stuff could be done without any extra magic.
