OS X has built-in key combinations to form curly quotes like “, ”, ‘ and ’.

On AZERTY keyboards for example:

⌥ + " = “
⌥ + ⇧ + " = ”
⌥ + ' = ‘
⌥ + ⇧ + ' = ’

In Terminal.app, these keyboard combinations work fine. In iTerm.app, they are unusable. What gives?

Not sure if it's default in iTerm or you can change it or whatever, but the option key is bound to esc or something, so you can't use it to type special characters. This was actually one of the reasons I switched to iTerm.

This bug has been fixed in iTerm2. http://sites.google.com/site/iterm2home/
