I'm throwing an idea, do not know if it could be possible / expanded or not. This feature could be so powerful to be worth a italc 3.0 series... The idea: starting vlc via italc could make italc extremely powerful for teaching foreign languages. How: vlc could be started as a media transmission server, (see: start vlc->Media->Streaming (ctrl+s)) on the teacher italc. At the same time one/some/all italc clients could start vlc as a streaming client (see: start vlc->Open network stream (ctrl+n)) Notes: 1) vlc like italc is multi-platform. So it will be possible to use it even in a mixed OS environment (great!) 2) works audio even with slow local networks. With high speed nets, audio-video or even HD! 3) foreign language teaching labs are reeeeaaaaalllllyyy expensive and this could be really something useful. Could be even worth looking for someone that could "sponsor" this add-on... maybe a even a GSOC project?!? 4) vlc could tranmit in point-to-point, multicast, broadcast, TCP or UDP. Every choice has pros & cons. Do a vlc --help to see the great range of possible options ... 5) this improvement could be so important that could be worth asking the vlc team about how to do it well. I suppose they could be very pleased about... 6) maybe it could be worth to incorporate directly vlc or to use it externally by italc or a mix as a fall-back. This could be a trade-off choice or a user choice...do not know... What do you think about this idea? PS: I could test it, of course... -- Marco Ciampa +--------------------+ | Linux User #78271 | | FSFE fellow #364 | +--------------------+ |

If some of the client computers have two monitors/displays, is there any possibility to monitor both displays, or to choose between them? -- Dan Ivanc Cabinet B225 Centrul Multimedia Facultatea de Electronica si Telecomunicatii Universitatea Politehnica din Timisoara Bd.
