Yesterday, as a moderator, I approved an editor's submission of the contents of an existing anthology publication, although I noticed that the first contents item had the type as ANTHOLOGY, not SHORTFICTION, thinking it would be no trouble to fix. It was!
On viewing the original anthology, the incorrectly-typed title was MISSING from the contents list. On searching for the author in ISFDB, I found that there were TWO author records for that name; one's summary page showed existing items, the other listed only an "anthology" with the title just added, which contained a publication which was the original anthology publication edited by the ISFDB editor.
I then went back to the original anthology and added the story title in correctly & approved. This added the story to the original anthology publication, BUT the incorrect records - extra/duplicate for the story's author, spurious anthology title by this author - didn't go away automagically. (The new shortfiction title was added to the first record of the story's author.)
(I deleted the incorrect records without losing the contents by cloning the publication, then deleting the first instance of the publication from the spurious "anthology", then deleting the spurious "anthology" title. Not sure if there was a better way.)

I think the manual way to correct this would be to adjust the new ANTHOLOGY record that should have been SHORTFICTION directly, not add the correct SHORTFICTION and hope the extra ANTHOLOGY will be easy to edit.

For a code fix, I guess we could ban two ANTHOLOGY content records in one ANTHOLOGY as we know they won't display right, but that could prevent all the useful contents getting added when it's a fairly simple fix for a Mod. Might be better to display all the content ANTHOLOGY records rather than hide them if there's more than one? Then we can correct one if it was a SHORTFICTION error, or convert the pub to OMNIBUS if it really does have two or more anthologies in it.

Changed the Content display algorithm to suppress only the first container title that matches the type of the displayed publication. If an anthology publication contains two ANTHOLOGY titles, the second one will be displayed, which should hopefully result in an editor noticing and correcting the problem.

Implemented in biblio/pl.py 1.72, installed in r2014-135 on 2014-03-05. Closing.
