This is the first part of 'DisplayBug:20091 Shortfiction series entries displayed after non-series shortfiction' from wiki, i.e. in author's Summary bibliography, titles from short fiction series are displayed after the non-series short fiction.
Example:
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?Michael_Swanwick
'Urdumheim (2007)' (the last non-series title) is followed by 'The Bulls (1991)', 'The Thief of Time (2003)' and 'Critics (1991)', which are number 1, 1, and 2 in their respective series.

In Summary bibliography, titles are sorted by number in series (title_seriesnum) and date (title_copyright). This prepares them for grouping into series. However, in the 'Fiction Series' section only series including NOVEL, COLLECTION or OMNIBUS titles by given author (and their parent etc. series) are displayed. Also, other titles in these series, except ANTHOLOGY titles, are displayed here.
If a SHORTFICTION title belongs to one of these series, it is shown in the 'Fiction Series', too. If not, it is shown later: it is displayed in the 'Shortfiction' section (sometimes earlier, in 'Anthology Series' series section; see biblio of Christie Golden and series 'Star Trek: Starfleet Corps of Engineers' which includes both SHORTFICTION and ANTHOLOGY by this author). If it belongs to an essay series (meaning: a series including at least one essay), it is also displayed in the 'Essay Series'. Example: Summary bibliography of Paul Di Filippo, where as of 2008-05-13, 'Have Gun, Will Edit' and 'And I Think to Myself, What a Wonderful World' are recorded as SHORTFICTION in series 'Plumage from Pegasus', where other titles are recorded as ESSAYs. If it belongs to a series containing only SHORTFICTION titles, it is displayed in the 'Shortfiction' section only. If such title has a series number, it is displayed in the 'Shortfiction' section after titles not having a series number.
To fix this non-chronological 'Shortfiction' section, we can display such SHORTFICTION titles in 'Fiction Series' section, where they belong. We can do it by adding ' or titles.title_ttype='SHORTFICTION' to the query in SQLgetNCSeriesData(), as in the attached patch. Series containing only shortfiction will be displayed in the 'Fiction Series' section.
Side effects of this patch:
Mixed SHORTFICTION+ESSAY series will be moved to the 'Fiction Series' section (now in 'Essay Series' section, with fiction shown also in 'Shortfiction' section). In such cases, series name will still be displayed in 'Essay Series' section, but with no titles (see biblio of Paul Di Filippo).
Mixed SHORTFICTION+ANTHOLOGY series will be split, with SHORTFICTION titles shown in 'Fiction Series' and anthologies shown in 'Anthology Series' section (see biblio of Christie Golden).
Other mixed SHORTFICTION+other series will be moved to 'Fiction Series'.

A simple way to work around the mixed series problem (i.e. ESSAYs in 'Fiction Series' section) would be to exclude ESSAYs from fiction series just like ANTHOLOGIES; see the attached 'mixed-series.patch'. This removes the first side effect and splits mixed ESSAYs+fiction series instead.
More general solution would be to: 1. separate 'editor' role from 'author' role (this takes care of the ANTHOLOGIES); 2. add classification of ttypes as either fiction (NOVEL, COLLECTION, ANTHOLOGY, SHORTFICTION), non-fiction (NONFICTION, ESSAY) or art (COVERART, INTERIORART). Thus we would include only fictional ttypes in the 'Fiction Series' section.

Removing ESSAYs as well as ANTHOLOGIES from the Fiction Series section
This is fixed with the Series Display changes of 22-MAY-2009. Short Fiction Series has been enabled, and the titles will appear there instead of at the end of the Short Fiction section.
Fixed in r2009-02.
