is it possible in any way to have multitouch like in an Macbook Air or MacBook Pro on my early 2008 MacBook?
or does the hardware not support those features?

Unfortunately, the supported trackpads can't tell two from three fingers.
but three fingers are only needed for "swipe".
so "rotate" and "pinch and expand" could be possible. (if locating two fingers workes?)
two of three new features would be more than zero...
...who needs "swipe"?
