I found out by Mandrav that Lightfeather as multiple solutions for Occlusion (Various culling methods: Portals, Octtrees, Occlusionculling, PVS)
Theyt started their engine with a base IRRlicht (IRRlicht NX)
If you where to implement new Occlusion in IRRlicht (I feel it really needed for improving frame rate while displaying levels)
Could this source serve as reference and exemple?

I released patch sometimes ago which added support Occlusion Query, one from Occlusion Culling methods. You can find more informations on Irrlicht forum in this topic: http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=29695
Added to latest SVN revision. It will be part of the next
stable Irrlicht release.
Occlusion Query has been added for Irrlicht 1.8
did it make it anywhere yet ?
No, it never made it. You could at least now try to use occlusion culling to hide/show your meshes.
