Dear Paul Stewart,
for a couple of linux terminals I would like to use a stir4200
irda dongle to download data to and from mobile phones. While
this works quite well for some brands of phones (thanks to the
driver I found made by you), it does not work for some others.
Unfortunately I am not that versed concerning irda and hence
might not give you all the information necessary. If I'm
missing anything, please tell me what else you need.
The application I use to transfer data is called gammu
(http://www.mwiacek.com/gsm/gammu/gammu.html) and the problem
is that it seems to 'hang' when a transfer is issued. It works
fine with other types of irda-usb interfaces. The mobile phone
I want to transfer data from is a Nokia Series 40 (Nokia 6800).
Attached is an irdadump output.
Thanks in advance

Try to play with tx power and rx sensitivity parameters.
I got similar problem with stir4200 usb dongle and nokia 6610 (Series
My line into /etc/modules.conf for stir4200 modules is:
options stir4200 rx_sensitivity=5 tx_power=3 qos_mtt_bits=1
I don't remember now if qos_mtt_bits does matter, anyway...
Take it a try. Hope it can halps.
