I guess I need to first make for my irda port is working (I think it is...)

when i do a irdadump  i see this:

15:16:03.351848 xid:cmd 0872d3e6 > ffffffff S=6 s=0 (14)
15:16:03.441844 xid:cmd 0872d3e6 > ffffffff S=6 s=1 (14)
15:16:03.531842 xid:cmd 0872d3e6 > ffffffff S=6 s=2 (14)
15:16:03.621854 xid:cmd 0872d3e6 > ffffffff S=6 s=3 (14)
15:16:03.711840 xid:cmd 0872d3e6 > ffffffff S=6 s=4 (14)
15:16:03.801844 xid:cmd 0872d3e6 > ffffffff S=6 s=5 (14)
15:16:03.891843 xid:cmd 0872d3e6 > ffffffff S=6 s=* <computer Name> hint=0400 [ Computer ] (22)

this just keeps repeating.... So I think the port works... right??

also when i point the a remote at the port and press the buttons.. the above output stops untill i let go of the button...

So again... i think something is working....

but irrecord does not produce any output...

I don't have any other IR devices to do any other tests....

here is the skinny on my system..
Redhat 9 Kernel 2.4.20-19.9.acpi.5 ( compiled with acpi support )
Dell Inspiron 8500

also I have this in my modules.conf:

#IrComm (for printing, PPP, Minicom etc
alias char-magor-161 ircomm-tty

Thanks,
