sadly, there is no documentation... about the features... jacob is currently working on the error reporting service, but apart from that, you're free to choose from the list. >> Another person volunteered to help yesterday, so the team might expand again in a few days... Hello :) I, Jasmeet Sidhu, would be that other person who volunteered. I've been following the development for a while now and lost track after no developments happened for quite a while. I had done something similar as this tool entirely in Perl. I think I still have that code somewhere, but I want to focus all my efforts on this tool as it is obviously a much better solution. I've looked over the TODO.txt file, and I guess I should only look at things in the 2.0 section? IrcLeech 2.0 -------------------- 01) UI polishing (making things more intuitive, using more popup menus, anything to improve usability and the look and feel of the application) 02) new options dialog (DONE: implemented by Jacob) 03) improved downloads functionality: 03.1) pausing downloads 03.2) prioritized downloads 03.3) opening completed downloads from within the application 04) improved filters functionality: 04.1) filter management: filters will be created/edited in a separate dialog window 04.2) expand filtering features: filters on multiple fields 04.3) keyword/regex search to search within the current filter's results 05) checking for updates 06) error reporting service What would be, in your opinion, the most desirable feature of the above? Any of you guys have any documentation? Maybe some notes? Basically looking for a shortcut to get up to speed.. :-| Anyhow, I look forward to contributing to this project. -Jasmeet Sidhu <jsidhu_at_loancity.com> -----Original Message----- From: Davy Brion [mailto:ra...@gm...] Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2004 10:54 AM To: irc...@li... hi all togehter ! i am a hobby c# coder from germany and happy to be part of such a nice project. as first I wanted to work on the leechcore, mainly the serversonnection and message parsing part, to get more valueable information out of the bots. this will improve the useability of this app i think. i am open minded so lets get in touch ;) regards cycosick |

the memory leak you had with Mono on Windows is most likely related to regular expressions. a couple of months ago i tried to get GIrcLeech running on Windows with GTK#, and it actually worked, but it leaked an insane amount of memory... after leaking about 200 megs of RAM, the mono process would crash with a weird error from the garbage collector saying it couldn't allocate any more space on the heap. after _many_ hours of debugging, it turned out to be because of the regular expressions. at first i thought it was the same problem i once had with mono on Linux: in the ServerConnection.cs class i used a long regex which worked perfectly in ms.net, but it leaked memory in Linux. splitting the regex into 2 regexs avoided the memory leak. But with mono on windows, even the simplest of all regexes, ".", leaked memory. I filed a bug report but the mono developers claimed there was nothing wrong. i had a test case which demonstrated the problem but they still didn't think it was a problem. That's when i completely gave up on Mono. I've spent way too many hours debugging weird issues with code that worked fine on ms.net. but i'm not trying to discourage you or anything :) On Wed, 10 Nov 2004 07:05:39 -0600, Duncan McQueen <dwm...@gm...> wrote: > Changes to my gui code. Changes to my gui code. I had several calls to determine the System default color and I needed to drop these as Mono really didn't recognize these correctly. On Windows it flat out told me that it was not implemented, but on my Mac it just never loaded. Be mindful, however, that I still have some strange crashes on OSX. Probably GUI related. I also ran it on my home PC in Windows in Mono and there appeared to be some memory leak and the application crashed. My guess is it is GUI related also. it looks to me like some sort of multithreading deadlock. Since this only happens when scanning for packages, i wouldn't be surprised if the problem is within the piece of code that adds the packages to the GUI. It's weird how this bug only gets triggered by restoring the application from the system tray though. what changes were necessary to get it working with Mono? Changes to your GUI code? or changes to IrcLeechCore? Here's a new screenshot of the wxgui of IrcLeech running under the Mono runtime. However, it is running under Windows, currently. What is funny is wx.net seems to look slightly better under Mono than under the Microsoft .Net Framework (look at the toolbar). I made some changes to ensure it works in Mono, so hopefully the issues I have will go away once I install it on my Macintosh. Anyone who wants acopy of the assembly to test out - let me know. Currently it can connetc to servers, display packages by the default filters, request downloads, and show statuses. It can also update the settings, but the filters are not currently modifiable. I am having a weird issue when it closes, but I think it is a Mono issue as .Net doesn't have the same problem. |

Ahhh...I need to incorporate those changes in my version. Currently, my app is working towards 1.0 functionality. i'm pretty sure nothing wrong will happen because of that unsafe part... but i'd still like to avoid it because of it not being verifiable by the common language runtime... i still don't know what that means (granted, i haven't searched for it's meaning yet) but to me that sounds like it could cause trouble if the IrcLeechCore library would be used by a VB.NET application. I wouldn't object to any unsafe code in the presentation layer, but i don't want it in a library that should be usable by anyone in any .NET language should anyone feel the need to use it. anyway, it shouldn't be a problem... he uses char* somewhere, and on first sight it looks like he could easily use a StringBuilder without slowing his routine down by that much. the list has been created, but it can take a few hours before it actually exists on the sourceforge servers you can subscribe here: http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/ircleech-bugs note: the link will work once the list exists on their servers On Tue, 9 Nov 2004 07:15:05 +0100, Davy Brion <ra...@gm...> wrote: > allright, i'll create the new mailinglist when later today > > > > > On Mon, 08 Nov 2004 13:59:57 -0800, Jacob Slusser > <jac...@ho...> wrote: > > > > > > Since no other suggestions have been presented about were to direct the > > IrcLeech error reports I'm going to suggest to Davy that he create another > > mailing list at sourceforge exclusively for error reports.
