thanks all,

adding 'modprobe tsb43aa82'  seems to do the trick so far.

now i am stuck trying to connect my Mac to the IPod via FW. pinging the  
ipod brings nothing back.

is there a way to access the ipod via a FW network from a Mac ? or is  
it Host Linux only ?
