Hi, I don't have an iPod myself, but nonetheless I find your project interesting. While scouring the web, and the Hydrogen Audio forums in particular, I found a couple of interesting links: "Embedded Decoder Brings Hardware Support For MPC!" http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?s=&act=ST&f=2&t=4094 "RAM optmize version of Tremor for ARM" http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?act=ST&f=9&t=6975 MPC is an audio codec which supposedly offers the best quality at relatively high bit rate (should be transparent at 160-170kbps). I believe you know what Tremor is ;) You should also take a look at FAAD. On my slow iMac with it's slow FPU, it uses significantly less CPU for decoding than any of the MP3 decoders. It just might be fast enough for the iPod :) I hope you find this useful. - Dan |
