I would love to be able to take an IPOD and connect it directly to
my portable firewire (powered) hard drive. Adding another 120gb of
music would be the ultimate in portability.
A firewire driver is now in CVS. Its still very beta but
some things work. I havent tested sbp2 yet because I don't
have any devices (other than the iPod itself).

I hope such a mass-storage firewire driver will be able to
handle firewire flash card readers ! This would be awesome
to dump digital photos/videos from your digital camera even
when you don't have access to you computer. Add a litlle
JPEG viewer on top for preview.
Although firewire readers are still very pricey I'm ready to pay
for such a cool feature

nice,
but, I think your wording should be the other way around :)
'connect an external FW HDD, directly to Ipod'
it'd be really nice, with one 2.5" FW HDD (external powered,
not from the ipod), when you are the road/a longer
trip/vacation and away for weeks :)
