Hi,

Anne has rightly noted that if a user only consults one of the three views, he doesn't see that the data presented are not the same in the three views.

The IntEnz view should present a summary of all the available information, something similar to what is seen in the curator tool. In this way users can quickly see what has been excluded (is missing) from the two additional views.

    Dear all,

IMHO, a better solution would be to add the views to the FAQ, to explain clearly to the user (once in a single place) that IntEnz view includes cofactors (which IUBMB doesn't) and references (which ENZYME doesn't).
Of course, that won't be visible unless the user reads the FAQ.

Adding some icons/highlightings to specific items is possible (as in the curator tool), but to me it has a negative connotation ('Not in IUBMB view', 'Not in ENZYME view'). As a user, I'd think: 'so if this IntEnz view has every piece of data, why bother to have a IUBMB/ENZYME view?'.
To show that IntEnz is better? ;-)

Besides, if a user consults only IUBMB view or ENZYME view, there will be some items missing. Do you mean to show a message like 'Missing information, please see IntEnz view' ?

That should be explained in the FAQ anyway (already partially answered, but I think we should mention explicitly our 'views').

    Regards,

    Rafael

    Dear Rafael,

Your suggestion will not solve the problem: That IntEnz currently is not ONE database, but THREE. There is not one single place where you can see all available data, and with three views showing different and sometimes non-overlapping data, there is no impression given to the user that data have actualy been merged!

Sorry Kristian but I cannot agree with you:

    > IntEnz currently is not ONE database, but THREE.

IntEnz is one database, full stop. Let's not confuse the views and data.

OK, but why don't show the user this, then??? There is NOWHERE he can get all data at the IntEnz site. Then he should download the xml version and play around locally.

Why do we have an IntEnz view that does not include all the data found in ENZYME and IUBMB?

Where do we show our users that we have something to offer which is different from ENZYME and the GM pages at IUBMB?

After removing the IUBMB view, this issue has shrinked. Please let me know whether it is worth keeping it open (and if so, a bit more of specification).
