Yay! :P

After a long wait, 1.4 is finally out. I've applied some of the knowledge I gained while working on Gargoyle to improving the suite. see the release notes for more details.

This version features a few bug fixes, some detail adjustments, an improved installer, and new beta components.

With the month coming to a close, the project has certainly outdone itself. There have been more downloads this month than all others combined, and web traffic is at an all-time high. Look forward to more improvements, and keep an eye on Gargoyle.

A new sister project to InstallFix has just been accepted. Gargoyle will be a more advanced, more integrated approach to security and system tools. InstallFix will continue to offer simplicity, but Gargoyle will offer better functionality, resembling popular programs like Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. InstallFix uses integrated definitions, Gargoyle will use external definition files. InstallFix is made up of several applications, which can be called with Full Service. Gargoyle will resemble Full Service, and call upon "modules" to perform each individual scan. These "modules" cannot function on their own. InstallFix deletes items automatically, but Gargoyle will compile a list of found items and prompt for user input upon completion.... read more

Among some other changes, this release corrects a bug that previously caused Java apps to stop working. If you are having problems with Java apps after using an earlier release, please re-install JRE and everything should work again. Also in this release, the installer now includes an optional "Beta Components" section, which includes an application I have been working on called "Registry Utility." While Registry Utility is not yet very useful, the interface is fairly solid, prompting for user permission before each deletion or change.

I have released version 1.2 of the suite. This version includes corrected interface texts, a new scan-logging feature, and a small new component called "Full Service", which acts as a wizard executing other programs in sequence.

With the exception of the text corrections, none of these changes would be reflected in a lite release. Therefore, the lite version will not recieve a new release yet. The text corrections will appear in the next release of Lite.

Today, I have made two file releases.

The first is version 1.1 of InstallFix Security Suite. This version includes more options during installation, and provides scans that are more powerful and more efficient. Minor interface adjustments will improve your experience, and a new changelog will allow users to see what's new.

As the second release, I have introduced a lite version. This suite does not include QuickFix. It includes smaller versions of TuffCookie and Janitor. The lite version of the suite will not be released as often as the regular version, but the version number will represent version of the regular suite which it has been based off of. As the suite grows to include more features and more complex scans, the lite version will provide a quick and simple alternative.

The project has reached the landmark of 1000 total downloads. This includes all files in all releases. I would like to thank Softpedia as well as all of the users. For more information visit the "stats" page.

The software review website, softpedia.com, has posted a review of InstallFix Security Suite 1.0.1. The testers have given it the "100% Clean Award," verifying that it will not harm your computer in any way. The old "InstallFix" and "MalwareFix" are no more. They have been combined and re-organized into a security suite that is designed to be more efficient and functional than its predecessors. The suite contains three programs. TuffCookie performs the standard and smart cookie scans, while Janitor handles caches, temp files, history, useless files, and malware. Scan results display has been drastically improved. The final program, QuickFix, performs a minimal scan at startup and then closes itself automatically.

I now have the programs and the source files as separate downloads to save users from getting unneeded files.

A lot of changes have been made to Installfix, and the malware scan which used to be included has now branched off as a separate program - MalwareFix. Both now have installers of their own, so the license page has been removed from the program. The user interface is now easier and more efficient.

This is the second major release of InstallFix. It contains many improvements from 0.1.1.

This is the first official file release of the project. The program is stable and safe. Try it out!
