No

I had to do the following action manually in order to compile on ubuntu 10.10.
If it were cmake I might be able to provide patches, but I'm not fluent in gnu makefiles.

mkdir sift/bin

looking forward to a deb package in a ppa...

That directory already exists in the source tree, along with a few subdirectories. Are you sure you checked out the source properly?

    1. I've checked in a small change from ldo17 to the makefile. Can you please check again? (I don't think, that this change is relevant for you.)
    2. If you are able and interested to port the makefile to cmake I'll add you as developer to this project.
    3. Feel free to provide a deb package in a ppa. I'll try to help you where I can. (I've never created an deb file. ;) )
