I was looking through the GSoC possiblities and I'm particularly interested
in the KML import project:

Given that project is still open, I assume that the proposal didn't go
forward for some reason. I was wondering if anyone had further information
as to why.
I've been thinking quite a bit about the hyperlocal movement and I've been
trying to come up with a reasonable way for users to add more complex
structures to maps than what is available in browser-based drawing programs.
It seems like this is a strong possibility, is there still interest in
developing this feature?

If I remember right, I don't think we had enough GSoC slots for it at
the time :( I had a set of mentors lined up for it, if there's a good
proposal I'd hunt them down again and twist their arms to help out :)
