Hi,
I am trying to install Infomap on my computer. I installed gnu-dbm but I
get the following error.
configure: WARNING: configure has detected that you do not have an

I tried googling a lot but I didn't find anything helpful. Any help is

Hi. I recently compiled Infomap-NLP on Mac OS X 10.8. For this specific system (where nested functions are disabled), you should include an explanation that you need to set the environment variable CFLAGS to compile. This should be added as a note below "Building (Compiling) and Installing the Infomap Software". $ export CFLAGS="-fnested-functions" $ ./configure $ make $ sudo make install After an hour googling I managed to compile. Ah--if I recall correctly, this is sort of an old chestnut. I think you
can resolve by putting a symlink somewhere. Can you send me the error
output?
I should also note, though, that Infomap has not been supported/updated in
quite some time. You might want to take a look at the Semantic Vectors
package:
http://code.google.com/p/semanticvectors/
which has similar functionality but is more current.

Hello,
I work for the RnD dept of my company which is into
e-learning. I am currently working on a semantic search engine for which I
am searching for an robust open source. I came across infomap while googling
for this information. I have few clarifications on this
1. While reading the tutorials I found one thing which requires
infomap to be supplied with a single file for indexing the large corpora. In
my case when I have lot of documents to index does this require all the
documents' contents be placed in a single text document.
2. I require the semantic engine to index different types of files
like pdf, txt, doc, html.
3. How is the robustness of the Algorithm used since the documentation
says similar to LSA.

Hi Barbara, Hm... Infomap uses ndbm, not gdbm... gdbm has a ndbm compatibility wrapper, but you might have to install a separate package for it. In general, the Infomap project has not been actively supported in some time. You may want to consider using the Semantic Vectors<http://code.google.com/p/semanticvectors/> package instead--it uses similar technology and was created by one of the Infomap project's main developers, but is still actively developed and supported. Hi Shiva, Please accept my apologies as well: my Sourceforge account has been dormant for too long. Scott is right, Semantic Vectors (http://code.google.com/p/semanticvectors/) is an actively supported descendent of Infomap. Its tokenization is based upon Apache Lucene and as far as I know, nobody has had any problems with UTF8 or right-to-left languages. If you were to try it out, I'd appreciate any feedback you have.
