this bug affects Impro-visor 5.08 running on Linux mint 9 64-bit
In improvisor's MIDI menu, only hardware midi devices are displayed. Software midi devices (such as fluidsynth, timidity) are not displayed. A work around exists; create a virtual hardware midi device with modprobe snd-virmidi, then rout the signal from impro-visor to the virtual hardware device to the software device.
This is definitely not true on MacOS, and the Java code is the same for all systems.
Perhaps it is a problem with your Java on Linux.
