Greetings, apologies as I'm probably not starting off right but this is a large community and I'm already burnt out from researching this this evening. This is the closest I have been able to get so here goes. I plugged an external HDD into my laptop earlier. It's a normal 2.5" SATA hard drive that I took out of another laptop to replace with an SSD. I haven't used it in awhile and I have some files that I want to store so that I can get them off the laptop as I don't use them often and could use to free up some space. I thought that the drive was empty as it was with a couple of others I have from the same thing. I talk people into installing SSD drives and if they don't have slots for the old HDD, I offer them a few bucks, format the drive and put it in an external enclosure. I get lot's of cheap external storage this way. The day I put all my data on any cloud and not have it saved on media with me is the day hell freezes over. Anyway, there were a couple of folders on the drive that I don't recall putting there, but there's a good possibility that I did, and just didn't pay attention and label it somehow. One of the folders contains a file named; disk20200724000-full.mpi
From what I can gather so far it looks like it may be a disk image file, but I don't know what disk it might be an image of, nor do I really know what to do with it. The reason I picked this particular site is because I have ImDisk software. I also have MiniTool, which also came up, but I'm a bit sore with them and I made that known in an email to their support people. Anyway, to cut this short as it's already a story and I know most discussion communities frown on that, Can someone give me some information on what, if anything I can or should do with this file, or point me to the appropriate section here where I can figure it out?

Or in short: what is the MPI image file format? :)

I'm not sure about the "large community". Most people just download it, try it, and if it works it's good, otherwise they look for something else. And it's OK with me because I do the same.

About this MPI file, I know nothing about this format and I have no sample. But I just found something that might help you:

Hey, thanks for the email. I figured out what it was, I was having issues with Windows 10 and I was working on getting what I needed to try a Linux distro and had forgotten that I was going to use that drive for that purpose. However I did follow the link you put in the email and I’m going to check it out too. Can never have too many tools, I’ve just got to do a bit better when saving things to organize and document what, where , when, etc. Thanks for the help.

Hey thanks. I was talking about SourceForge in general when I said "large community". Thanks for the link, I did look into it. One can never have too many tools I don't think, so long as we can remember where we put them so that we can use them when we need to lol. I figured out what was going on with my situation though. I was having issues with Windows 10, as usual, and after a heated session in the Microsoft Community help pages, I decided to start gathering what I need to try a Linux distro and I used that hard drive to download an image and the other folder was the tools to use it without installing it right away. I don't have optical drives in my laptops anymore so I have to make it "think" I do. I'm glad I found it though because now I can get back to work on that. When Windows works the way I want it to I get lazy and forget about it... Until the next time Windows pi$$es me off. Thanks again for the response and link.
