I very like the new gui (to be used by not advanced users) but by the some
reason it requires administrative rights that user might not have. Whilst
original imdisk applet don't require any extended rights to mount image (on
the same PC on Windows 7 x64 ). It would be very nice to be able to use
MountImg to mount images w/o admin rights.
For the advanced image file formats such as vhd, vdi and vmdk, MountImg uses the DiscUtilsDevio command line utility which requires administrative privileges.
Other formats can already be mounted through imdisk.exe or imdisk.cpl, so the interest of using MountImg without administrative privileges to mount these formats would be rather limited. Moreover, there would be some issues, for instance with the display of the image file content.
Something that could be done would be to set a service up at the install to auto-elevate MountImg and the other utilities. But there are huge security implications (with the risk to get new false positives from antiviruses) so this requires to be very cautious with the program design.
Besides, I am very busy currently, so features like that will have to wait some time.
