Here is a patch/diff that could be an example to create transitions without the first aid plugin kit. The current first aid plugin kit does not work (at least for me), and I don't know enough about Make to be able to tell why it isn't working. Custom transitions can be manually compiled and put in ~/.imagination/plugins too.
