I would appreciate very much if the handling of dates and times could
be somehow improved. There are several aspects which come to my mind:
a) Showing of Date/Time in Message list: What I don't like is, that days
and month are not padded with zeros if smaller than ten, therefore it's
harder to read the list of dates. In addition I do not like much that
recent messages get something like "Today 11:03" or "Monday 23:05". And
moreover if I switch the language of the interface the date settings are
changed as well. It would be much better if the date/time format could be
make configurable, indepentendly from other options. Maybe one could
select from the most common with a pop-down menu ("yyyy-mm-dd", "dd.mm",
"mm/dd", ... and as well if you want the 'today' behaviour) and [for the
advanced user] the possibility to give the format as a format string (like
with the printf).
b) Time-Zone: An automatic correction for daylight savings time would
helpful. At least in most parts of Western Europe you can easily determine
with an algorithm at which dates it starts and ends. At the moment I have
to change the time zone twice a year ..
c) If you open (in imap mode) the search page, one can search for a
specific date, which must be entered in mm/dd/yyyy-format which is rather
annoying when you are not used to this format ... maybe this could be make
either configurable with a sensible default (for example based on
language) or if not configurable changed to a more "standard" form. The
only "standard" might be the ISO-date YYYY-MM-DD, which might not be used
by many, but at least should be least confusing.
