Trying to connect from iTunes on a Windows XP machine
to a Mac OS X machine with the music.

Configured as following:
IP Address = IP Address
Port = 3689
Host Label = Whatever
Service Type: _daap._tcp. (iTunes Host)

It takes about four minutes of iTunes doing 'Loading
"Whatever"...' before it comes up with the error.

The shared music library "Whatever" is not accessible
for an unknown reason. (-39)

Check that any firewall software running on either the
shared computer or this computer has been set to allow
communication on port 3689.

Machines are connected over a network vpn (on
respective default gateways, allowing all traffic, no
firewall on windows machine, default firewall on OS X
machine.

Checking Mac OS X I see that there is a TCP/IP
connection established

$ netstat -an | grep 3689
tcp4 0 326 mac.os.x.ip.3689
windows.xp.ip.2958 ESTABLISHED
tcp4 0 0 *.3689 *.*
LISTEN

Mac OS X firewall has the following:

02100 allow tcp from any to any dst-port 3689 in

Windows XP Version of iTunes is 6.0.4.2, Mac OS X, is
up to date with most recent version from Software
Update for 10.4

Only really useful google post I found is:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93432-en

There are no web accelerators on either computer, and
iTunes versions are well past version 4...
