it might be quite a nice addon to be able to see what is new since last time you checked the newsgroups (at least that way i don't need to follow other sites or use other programs to search and see what is new, now i use something like klibido/pan/xnews to update the headers daily and then download, this way i would only need to check ikbin and put the downloaded nzb's into hellanzb or similiar)

You can do something similar with the personalized home page. It will note the newest collections in all the groups/searches that you save. A site wide 'newest' files feature is interesting.

I've noticed that after i submitted the feature request :)

But that only allows you to see 5 at once per group (that wouldn't be hard to change though i haven't found it yet) the bigger problem then is that you cannot quickly just 'grab' the nzb for the new posts.

Is such a site wide newest files on the TODO list ?

I think the concept is good. I'm trying to think of how to implement it and how it fits in the site flow. Do you have any suggestions? Where this page should go and what it should look like?

The site is 'dumb', meaning that it stores no info from the client. Everything is done from cookies and javascript. One thing that could be done is when you 'browse' a news group the last message ID for that group could be stored in a cookie. THen when you visit the browse groups page a bit of javascript could highlight new items & a check box could show only new items (just like the collections only box works now).

As for a site wide newest, that might be a problem for full scale implementations of ikbin. A newest list for a site with 1000 groups indexed would get pretty massive and the signal to noise ratio pretty high.

How about this - something like the scheme above, but also a change so that nzbs can be downloaded directly from the personalized homepage?

    I'm just tossing around ideas...

    I like the idea :)

Using a cookie with message-id to keep track what was already browsed or not sounds quite good, that way it's easy to keep track of what's new in your favorite groups.

For the site wide idea, i also think it would cause too much confusion as listing all new files/collections would get quite a bit, maybe if you would make it so that it only lists from a select number of groups and only collections it might work ? And then also make the collection a little more like how it is on the personalized homepage, a bit more compact so to speak ?

I'll give it some more thought on how this could look like or be useful.

About the personalized homepage, how about making the name of the post click-able to grab the nzb ? that way it all stays nice and small and you still would be able to get a nzb from the home page. Or maybe adding a grab and view nfo button behind the size, parts ?

Ok. I added queue and grab links. I didn't think of an NFO link, but that is a good idea. It will require a change to the XML, so that will come a bit later. I will add NFO display from the personal home page and try to get some javascript written that will mark files in each group that are new since the users last visit.

I was Just looking for this addition and can see this hasn't been followed through.
What I'm after is something similar to vbulltetin3 addon that Filesharingtalk use where you just press the button NEW POSTS and it brings back the result of new posts posted since your last visit.
That would be a great addition.
