iElectrodes - Intracranial depth electrodes implantation planning tutorial
Planning of each depth electrode array is defined by two points in the 2D views or one point and two angles.
To plan a new array:
1. Click on the new button in the planning tools box. Automatically a new array will be generated target 1 coordinates will be at (0,0,0) and target 2 will be at (1,1,1) by default. Planned electrodes are visualized as yellw crosses in the 2D view and as green dots in the 3D view.
2. Change the name of the electrode array in the top-right text box.
3. To modify target 1 or target 2 coordinates, you should first visualize the corresponding coordinates in one of the 2D plane views. Then click on Target 1 or Target 2 button and click on the 2D plane corresponding coordinate.
4. You can also change target coordinates by typing the new coordinate in the X, Y and Z boxes.
5. You can also edit azimuth and elevation angles. In this case, target 1 coordinates will remain fixed and target 2 will change accordingly to the new angles. Azimuth is the counterclockwise angle (degrees) in the x-y plane measured from the positive x-axis. Elevation is the elevation angle (degrees) from the x-y plane.
6. Set N the number of electrodes in the corresponding array.
7. Set 1st-2nd the distance between the first and the second electrode contact.
8. Set 2nd-last the distance between consecutive electrodes from de second to the last.
To add a new electrode go to step 1.
To navigate throw planned electrode arrays, use the Prev and Next buttons.
You can navigate throw all planned electrodes contacts using the - and + buttons.
Chosen electrode contact is in black color.
Plot options allows to chose between plotting all electrodes arrays or only the actual one.
You can modify target 1, target 2 coordinates and angles any time.
Planned electrodes coordinates can be saved using the Save planning coordinates button in the toolbar.
A .mat Matlab(R) file with a targets structure containing all electrode coordinates.
Planned electrodes coordinates can be loaded using the Load planning coordinates button in the toolbar.
This panel allows you to obtain alpha and beta angles relative to frame position on the patient's head (left, right, anterior or posterior). In order to use this angles system, image coordinate system shuld be equal to the stereotactic frame coordinate system. Go to [Planning coordinates and implantation surgery] for details on this process.
