I did see that on their web site, but I got the impression that a
certain user/id was needed in order to account for those referals. Since
those values are hard coded in IDS, who gets the $6?

Well, I'm using IDS for my family photos on my personal web server, so
that's not an issue for me. My thinking was that my family members could
order the prints they want instead of my wife ordering hundreds of
dollors of prints and sending them to every family member! :-)
