I agree that this is one of IDS's strong sides: It does *not* have a lot of dependencies. (That is actually why I chose IDS in the first place. I also looked at PhotoShelf, but it would have taken me a whole day to install... :-) Using jpegtran could be an option. A configuration variable could specify the location of jpegtran.
