Here are the po files for italian locale, exept for midicontrols.po
Thanks for this. I was not expecting.
I hope these separate files are courtesy of msggrep and not xgettext. I imagine it would be possible to msgcat them all into a single file called it.po but that's your job since on merging the works together there could be issues with duplicate strings having subtle translation differences. Which one to keep is not my role as maintainer to say.
In support requests item #3428129 I told you I would have liked to help in traslating idjc, so "git cloned" and did it :-)
There you pointed me to GNU/gettext tools... and yes, the po files are created using:
xgettext --from-code=UTF-8 -L Python foo.py -p po/ -o foo.po
BTW the single it_IT.po file is attached
Hope it works, let me know.
git checkout 0.8.6a
[plus the usual build commands]
Yes it works apart from Python choking on the header where the plural forms definition appeared 6 or so times (fixed). You may come to notice though that the po/it.po file now has translation comments in it. May they assist you in doing the other 354 translations that have so far been missed. I can understand your difficulty with
For future reference:
msginit -i po/idjc.pot -o it.po
Would have generated the relevant raw translation file with the translation comments intact. msggrep can then be used to split by originating file if that's what you need.
Translation file integration was achieved by copying it.po to po/it.po and adding 'it' to po/LINGUAS and doing cd po, make update-po. The country code is correctly dropped when it matches the language code.
I couldn't help but notice some <i> italic tags appearing quite literally. If you really need them I can update the code to show them as markup. I can understand your difficulty with midicontrols.po as I had the most terrible time getting the dialog any kind of right in my own language. The trick with that one is to understand what each line does conceptually rather than trying to translate the text and bonus points if you manage to make it scan from top to bottom as an actual sentence. Unfortunately for translators the sentence fragments are scattered due to being composed of multiple widgets that get swapped around even.
Ok, I guess I should work on 0.8.6a from now on with the right sets of commands for po files managements.
About missing translation I missed the midicontrols.py while creatint po files... noticed when preparing the zip, so I will upload it ASAP (I am translating ardour3 too and audio/midi "slang" is my friend :) )
The <i> tags are there because some words are best known as they are (eg. monitor, playlist...), their italian translation would result in a "mumbo-jumbo".

should I use git to commit? or may I continue to update this thread?
python/preferences.py:471 -- it's a limiter, there's no 'Ratio control' to work with
python/preferences.py:477 -- removed the references to 'Ratio control' in it.po tooltip
Your changes have been merged. Continue to post to this thread for the Italian translation. 714 translated, 5 fuzzy, 16 untranslated. That's very close. If you have queries about any of the remaining translations ask in this thread.
I have made one additional string available for translation. I have taken into account your comments about the limiter. Let me know if I have missed any strings.
Complete it.po attached. I am going to review the whole next week, in order to improve here and there if needed.
IMHO I would suggest to keep the jingles panel together with the main window, something like hide/show. One has many other apps running when streaming (jamin, a browser, skype, qjackctl...), so jingles panel could be (and usually is) buried between them. My 0.02€
Your 429271:it.po has been merged. There are 4 fuzzy and 2 untranslated messages remaining.
Take a look at the Prefs->About page where I have added a credits/contact page specifically for translators. Something other than placeholder text is required. Please let me know what contact information you wish to supply to the end users.
I also need the following for hard coding to the idjc.desktop (menu entry) file:
Comment[it]=Create your live radio show or podcast
GenericName[it]=Graphical shoutcast/icecast client
For translators page you can add: Raffaele Morelli, email@example.com
For desktopo menù entry:
Commento=Crea la tua live radio o podcast
NomeGenerico=Client grafico shoutcast/icecast

I noticed that the translation for the playlist modes for Random and Random Hop are _identical_. Please differentiate them. Secondly, the playlist modes mentioned in the playlist mode tooltip do not fully correspond.
The git repository has been updated with your latest.
italian translation r2
fixes in playlist mode description.
I have merged branch 0.8.6a into master and you should consider (version number aside) that what currently resides at HEAD as a release candidate. No further updates will appear on your local 0.8.6a branch and that particular branch has been purged from origin. When the release is eventually made a corresponding tag will be added to the repository.
I have modified some placeholder values in it.po to fix a problem with them being unreorderable for just one particular translatable string -- this requires that you use the new it.po in the repository as the basis of any further work in order to prevent regression. New, Remove, Edit are gone, and in their place are equivalent GTK stock labels that do not require your attention.
I would appreciate you letting me know if any of my English text strings appear in any way odd to you so I can improve those.
I expect to release idjc-0.8.6a before the new year.
It's time for a new version of IDJC (0.8.8). The translation file is ready for your attention in the git sources if you are willing.
