[Idesk-users] Look XP released

Linux/Unix identical to Windows XP.

.lnk files. I find that, duet to the ubiquitousness of .desktop files,

[Idesk-users] I should have done this a while back

So, I apologize. I keep on telling myself that I will work on idesk next
winter, and then the summer, and then after that, but it is not
happening. So I should have let someone else take over this project a
long time ago. I have not been using idesk for the past 6 months and
have been very lackluster answering any support questions. Please email
me if you have desire to take over the project. It was fun when I was
into it, but don't have the motivation anymore.

I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate.
You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it.

With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development.

i've started an opensource project,called WinDE (Windows Desktop =
Emulation). WinDE wants to configure an existing window manager (FVWM) a =
file manager (XFE) and an Icons manager (Idesk) and a root menu manager =
(DeskMenu) to recreate the Windows XP interface with the goal of make =
easier for Windows XP users to use a Linux/Freebsd box. Now i want to =
customize a little bit Idesk. Icons and descriptions are very little. =
How can i change font type and dimensions ?=20

I think I found the fix to this.  In my lnk file "firefox.lnk", I change the 
"Command: /usr/local/firefox/firefox" to "Command: 
/home/someuser/firefox.sh".  In "firefox.sh", I have the following:

#!/bin/bash
export LC_TYPE=C
/usr/local/firefox/firefox

This seemed to fix it, though I'm not sure exactly why.  I got the 
LC_TYPE idea from the default fluxbox startup file, found in 
~/.fluxbox/startup.

[Idesk-users] acrobat reader/firefox problem when firefox launched from icon

Hi,

Using idesk 0.5.6, fluxbox 0.98, X 4.3, fedora core 1:

Something weird I've just noticed.  When opening Firefox from the Fluxbox 
menu or from an xterm window, Acrobat Reader plugin works fine.  However, 
when opening Firefox using my Idesk icon, Acrobat Reader plugin does not 
work -- just get blank window where I would normally expect to see the pdf file 
inside of the acrobat reader widow.  All other Firefox plugins seem to work 
fine.  Anyone have any ideas what's happening here?  Suggestions as to how 
to troubleshoot?

Some time ago I use xtdesktop with FluxBox to manage desktop icons, but
unsupported PNG alpha blending and transparency, after almost full year o=
f
usage, I found iDesk and its great new features (PNG transparency & alpha
blending included :).

Great work, I wish to say. But, I love popup menu in xtdeks that apear on
right click on some desktop icon, and displayed menu commands. So, I for
some icons have more than three sub-actions per icon. This feature missin=
g
me in iDesk.

As I don't know to code, I can't build patch for that, but I can be alpha
tester for that new feature :)

Is possible to implement popup menu to iDesk?

Hello,

You've probably noticed that not much idesk stuff has been going on.
Things have been quiet since the summer. I recently had the chance to
work on things more since I was stopped short earlier this summer, but
I've gotten the bug to redo a lot of the code again. I've done a good
bit already, but there are many things I still need to do. The next
release (whenever I may get it done) will hopefully fix some of the
install problems because it will use the GNU autotools (configue and
such). There will be support for both imlib and imlib2, but using imlib2
will give you more features. Also with autotools you will be able to
remove SVG support to get rid of the gnome dependencies.

Unfortunately I don't have any time line. The more I get bugged
(positively :) ), the likely I will be to get things done faster. I'd
like to ask for a few favors, if anyone would like to help (don't feel
obligated to do anything you can volunteer as little or as much as you'd
like).

Anyone have suggestions to improve the configuration files? Maybe
different syntax, different filetypes, etc. I'd like to have a much
better config parser, the current Database.cpp is kinda gross and breaks
very easily. Let me know if you would like to write a new configuration
file parser.

Someone made a man page for idesk 0.3.5, but there is not one for the
current version. If anyone would like to do it, that would be great.

I could use some people to help with support questions. I'm not always
the best at answering everyones questions on the user mailing list, the
forums or email. Thanks to those of you who do help out (Thorsten,
curious, and others).

Another idea would be to work on a gui configuration program,
scottanious made a cool perlGtk script which does come configure stuff
already if you want to start with that
(http://idesk.timmfin.net/releases/ideskConf.pl-0.2).

So if you'd like to to something why don't you send it off to the devel
mailing list (and join the list). I didn't have to list it here, if
you'd like to do something say so.

indeed, they both had values of 0.  i'll let you know if idesk crashes 
again with non-nil values!

of 0, then you can get this error. Whats happening is that you are
modding (the modulus operator something by zero, which causes a divide
by 0). Do you have those options set in you config file? Let me know if
the problem is fixed by having those options be set to non-zero values.

I'll make sure to patch this for next release, if it ever gets finished

i've done so, and here's the backtrace (attached).  i assume i've done 
it correctly (the backtrace part at least), as i'm not familiar with 
gdb.  if more information is needed, i'd be more than willing to provide 
it if someone could explain me on how to get it.

the xmms "control" icons are all similar to this:

end

i haven't had this error with the other icons, but i've only got two
others (so far), for rebooting and shutting down, so i don't use those
that much.

and i'm running idesk 0.5.5, made from source.
