I can confirm this on my 8150-B
I tested both multitouch kernel and OC kernel, both running at 30/122 to 600MHz ondemand scheduler.
When mobile data is turned on, the battery will drop at about 20-25% /hour rate, even I just use for SMS, twitter and email.
When mobile data is turned off, the battery will drop at about 3-5% /hour rate, using SMS frequently.
So in conclusion, the battery drain problem is on both kernel and ONLY when mobile data is switch on (either high usage or low usage), and returning to normal when turning off mobile data.

i don't full agree:
i left 6.1 in aero mode (so all 2g, 3g and wifi disabled) and in 10 hrs it consumed 30% of battery.
5.1 consumes 1-2% as comparison.
there must be something in the application layer too.
