I have large numbers of mp3s with an id3v2 tag yet no
id3v1 tag. Of course many mp3 programs still need id3v1
tags....sigh.

Very useful program by the way. I've been able to clean
up huge numbers of mp3s. Thanks.

I second that request as xmms does not properly handle
id3v2 yet, and I've got a bunch of MP3's that are id3v2 only
due to length of some of the fields not fitting in id3v1...

Ditto here. My music downloader will put the id3v2 labels
on there, but not the v1 ones. I need to add those in there
so that my MP3 player will read them.
