Confirming, please fill a bug in icewm bug tracker and add the describtion as you did below. I'd also like icewmtray to be possible to run only once, Icewmtray is a native part of icewm, I do not think it's anyhow unmaintained. Hi, some notes on theming the taskbar: If I am not wrong you can't change the following by a taskbar theme: * there is always a square (border) around the taskbar buttons * the bottom of the buttons is slightly different from the bottom of the taskbar, the buttons are a bit smaller (you'll notice that especially when the taskbar is on top and then maximize a window). * you can't change the space between taskbar buttons To solve all this in one step, I would like to add an idea as a RFE: To draw a taskbar it would be best if we had just a chain of xpm images (rather thinking in terms of background/foreground). In this way 3d effects of pressed or released buttons, the width of spaces etc are in the hands of the theme. And, as the buttons itself ARE the taskbar there would be no background necessary. A possible chain of the xpm images could be: 1 taskbarEdgeLeft 2 tastbarStartbuttonActive/Inactive 3 taskbarButtonLeftActive/Inactive 4 taskbarButtonCenterActive/Inactive 5 taskbarButtonRightActive/Inactive 6 taskbarTrayBackground 7 taskbarEdgeRight Felix |

Hi folks, Is there a way i can get rid of "Top Panel" and "Desktop" from the quick switch list in GNOME? They always seem to insert themselves between my two most recent apps, requiring me to Alt-Tab twice to get the desired effect. I searched the list archives and couldn't find any reference to this. I'm using icewm 1.2.16-1 with gnome-panel 2.6.2-3 on Debian sarge. Thanks in advance, Paul <http://paulgear.webhop.net> -- Did you know? Hi, it seems that icewm uses min and max values for the width of task bar buttons depending on how many buttons are shown. Can I somehow set a fix width for all task bar buttons (so that the width is always the same)? Felix |

First of all I don't know if this problem is totally icewm related. When selecting text from an app (lets say mozilla) and pasting that into vim I can get about 4000 characters copied. I select the text and paste it with the middle mouse button. When selecting lots of text I only get one weird character instead of the text. Do I need an external app to handle this? |

Hi, I want to install a Surf Terminal, so I want to disable any access to Shells. So I have to remove the Entry "Restart Xterm" (or something like that I have the german version :-) in the Menu which can be reach with STRG-ESC or the right mouse button. How can I hide this entry or diable the whole menu? Thanks a lot Dominik |

Thanks for the tip. I took care of the aterm problem a while ago, but I'll look at your tip when I get home to see if it's more efficient (I can't remember my fix/kludge). As for aterm, yes I can copy text within an aterm window (mouse-over to copy, middle button to paste), or from other non-terminal windows. 09/20/04 Hello Matt, Rather than using IcePref2 to start Aterm, have you tried editing the Me= nu = or Programs file (depending on where you'd like to see Aterm) and starti= ng = Aterm there? In my menu file, I have this entry for Xterm. The format is: Program = Name, Program Icon, Program Executable (I could also have made this entry in the Programs file.) prog _Xterm /usr/share/icewm/icons/xterm_32x32.xpm /usr/bin/xterm= = -fn 9x15 Notes: 1) The underscore before the X in Xterm gives the keyboard shortcut key= = to the X. You could move the underscore to anywhere within Xterm to use= a = different letter for the shortcut key. 2) As you can see, xterm is accepting the parameter -fn 9x15 , to s= et = the size of the Xterm window, and consequently the font size. And now a question for you. :) I'm using Xterm with IceWM at the moment. I've not been able to find a = = way to copy and cut text from the Xterm session to another Xterm session= . = Is this possible? If not, does Aterm support keyboard or mouse cut and paste? If Aterm doesn't, do you know of any terminal program that does? I would like to avoid installing Gnome or KDE libraries to use the = proposed Xwindows terminal program. I'm building a LinuxFromScratch = system for music work, on an older PII-350Mhz box, and prefer to keep al= l = programs down to minimal size. Thanks for any suggestions you may have. Stephen Stubbs. If this document is actually going to be useful, I don't mind spending some forces on it (although I'll probably only get to it again in early October; but I'll carefully look at feedback before that). I'll be honest and reveal the egoistic motive. One of my main aims is to put something user-oriented into my open portfolio. I'm a tech writer with several years of experience, but I don't have much to show to a potential employer; all my commercial write-ups are under NDAs. I wrote some technical stuff (the Trash specification - it still needs some updates but is mostly done). And now I went for some user stuff. But, I'm also an IceWM fan, and especially like the idea of a "locked down desktop" that one can easily make with IceWM. I feel this kind of desktop needs a user document. So I'm writing one. > You should think a lot about > where is the border you do not want to cross within your describtion, as > you are describing very esential things and you can quicky dive very deep > in them. Agreed. My idea is to write the document for a more or less typical default setup. And then to offer it to those who set up "locked down desktops", so they can tweak it as necessary. As I'm writing this answer, I just had an idea. I think I'll write a "tweaking guide" for this document, explaining where and what one should change before giving this to the user. A sort of "meta-documentation" (documentation that tells how to tweak documentation) > Pictures will be very very helpfull. You can either make screenshot or > (what I personaly prefere) to draw some schematic ones (maybe ascii art > could be used). I'm really bad at drawing, so I'll just do the screenshots... (e.g. you are describing desktop with taskbar visible, but administrators can setup desktop the way where taskbar is hiding etc. But describing all the variants will make document too complicated.) Pictures will be very very helpfull. You can either make screenshot or (what I personaly prefere) to draw some schematic ones (maybe ascii art could be used). > Yours, Mikhail Ramendik Adam Pribyl |

Most probably it will be .xinitrc. Edit it and put the following in it: - -=-=-=-=-=-=-START======= #!/bin/sh exec icewm-session - -=-=-=-=-=-=-END========= All the programs that you want to start automatically should come before the exec part and should end with an ampersand (&). eg. if you want to run aterm each time, the file will be: - -=-=-=-=-=-=-START======= #!/bin/sh aterm & exec icewm-session - -=-=-=-=-=-=-END========= It is just like any other shell script. > regards, > sans - -- Regards, Arjun Asthana arjunasthana@... arjunasthana@...
