Hello Everyone,
I want to start by saying I appologize for not making this a
priority, but I have been rather busy. Lance has also been very busy.
I have contacted a few of you that are on this list, and some off, and
now I am interested in what tasks everyone would like to take on.
I have been working on payment verification. For those who are not
sure what I am talking about, you can find examples at codesine.com.
Currently I am working on Authorize.net. I am also integrating it into
the store so the administrator can select which processor they are going
to use and enter the important information such as processor user id and
password. Codesine is working on a total e-commerce solution which will
do something very similar to this. There solution is a pay solution,
however, as are the credit card processing modules. One thing that has
come to mind is that the store is going to need some sort of http
handler for things like SSL for those stores that the administrator
would like to keep all the sensitive data in their database. There are
solutions which will not need this.(if you are unsure of what I am
talking about, please go to Verisign's site and read over their very
valuable information on these topics)
I think it would be a great idea for those of you reading this to
send back to the list what you have or will be doing. This will allow
us to avoid everyone working on the same thing, or changing too many
things that would affect something that others have changed also. A
good start to a group project like this is to see what others have
already done or what their area of expertise is. Then we can move onto
who is doing what and the assigning of individual tasks. This will
allow us to work as a team. I have not touched any of the code from the
original download except I have added a link to my admin section on the
main admin page, everything else I have done has been pretty independent
from the core.
As for now, unless any information stating otherwise is received
from Lance, I would stick to following the guidelines Lance has set for
us in all of his previous code. Like I have said in a previous email I
prefer the VS with codebehind enviroment myself, but everything I am
working on is done within the specs setup in the original release of the
product. Perhaps at a later point I will move the code into this
enviroment, but any work I am doing for the group will stay in the
current format until Lance tells me otherwise.
Sorry for the long email, but I had much to say. Please post to the
list what you are doing, or if you are shy you can email me at
cr...@at... and I will mail the list saying someone is working on
this and that. Just an added reminder, that anything in the open source
enviroment like this should have extremely minimal restrictions on the
usage of the code and the receiving members of the code should never do
anything to take the credit of others. Always give people their due
credit, and never offer code to others that you don't want them using.
Thanks everyone,
Chris
