I have more questions than answers. You posted to the TPM 2.0 TSS mailing list, yet your questions seem to be about the demo utilities that ship with the SW TPM for TPM 1.2 .
If you're trying to send 1.2 commands to a 2.0 TPM, that won't work. If you're trying 1.2 commands linked to a 2.0 TSS, that won't work either.

... and if you really are using TPM 1.2 all the way and just posted to the wrong web site, see the tpm/INSTALL instructions, specifically the section "Running the Server". Among other things, it says:
