How funny we are on the same path it seems. I just dug through the C code as well and I was about to share the same information with you.

@Doug - When will this be implemented? It seems you can reliably get this information from some various sources most notably:

mii-tool -v <interface_name>

-or-

ethtool <interface_name>

I'm almost inclined to write the code to do this feature.
