A few questions come to mind...

1.  If you go back into the Monitoring Defaults Configuration screen for the Platform you changed, are the settings showing what you expect (your earlier changes)?

2.  Did you just set the metrics you added to "Default On", or did you also turn each of them on as an "Indicator"?

3.  If you go to the page for one of your newly imported Platforms, and click on the Metric Data tab, is there any indication that your newly specified metrics are being collected (are there values shown for the metrics)?

Collecting metrics does not automatically make them show up as Indicators when you're viewing the Monitor tab for the Platform, however, once you are collecting them, you can easily add them to your views. You can turn selected metrics on as a default Indicators for the Platform in the Monitoring Defaults Configuration.

If this does not help to resolve your problem, please report back specifics on the Platforms and metrics you are working with so that someone can try to reproduce what you are seeing.

laullon,

thanks for this. I added thes properties but HQ still cannot discover the managed servers. BTW, how do i find out about product specific properties such as these? I could not not find these in the HQ docs.

[Hyperic-hq-discuss] Cannot Access Inventory Anymore

I have been playing around with Hyperic Open Source (HQ Version 3.0.1 build=
 #300 - Feb 15, 2007) and really loving it.  It is so much easier to use/se=
tup than any of the other products that I've been testing.  I've just stumb=
led into a problem though.  I created a mixed group (I can't even recall wh=
at was in the group at this point) and then decided that I didn't need the =
group.  When I went to delete the group, I got an error message.  The syste=
m still shows a count of 1 in "Mixed Groups" under the "Browse Resources" a=
rea; however it doesn't list items when I actually click on it.

This isn't the real problem though.  After this happened I can no longer ge=
t to the Inventory tab for any of the platforms objects, whose services I h=
ad tried to add to the mixed group .  Each time I try to access an Inventor=
y page, I get the following error:

I've included the stack trace below.  I tried running some of the Postgres =
control items and they didn't help.  I've also rebooted the server.  If thi=

When I create an escalation and create an action for this which would send a sms with the option "Notify other recipients" and fill in a email address, it won't send an email to those addresses. It will only send when you use the option "Notify HQ Users" and select a users which has set a "SMS Address".

Would be nice if it would be possible to use the "Notify other recipients" option.

I did an extra check and it only happen when there are multiple alerts which went off (which were triggered by the same alarm) for the volume.

When I click on the alert, which is visible on the dashboard (recent alerts), I get the alert details. When I click on "<< Return to Alerts" I get the stack trace. This doesn't happen when there is only 1 alert entry in the alerts table.

Then I added new Agents and imported the auto discovered Resources.

I would expect, that the new Resource has the platform metrics configuration, which I defined in the Monitoring Defauls Configuration. But this is not the case.

Maybe I misunderstood the Monitoring Defaults Configuration?

I am working on Mule/Hyperic integration(MuleHQ). I installed MuleHQ 2.7 on Windows Vista Enterprise. It cannot discover Mule 1.3 JMX services.  I used Auto-Discovery as well. It didn't work.  I didn't see any obvious error messages in log files. jconsole was able to discover these services. As such,  are there any suggestions or  workarounds for Vista? BTW, I installed Hyperic 3.0 as well. That also couldn't discover services .

This seems to be a PostgreSQL related problem. I re-run the set up with the internal DB, the problem went away this time. I also found another posting with the similar error when postgreSQL being used.
