The file I'm referring to is one associated with your Fileserver File service.. in this case /var/adm/messages. The File service is generic and does not know if the file it's pointing at will be executable. In your case the control action of run is not appropriate. In other cases where the File may be a script, it is. Now I have a question for you.. In the future can you refrain from the excessive use of your CAPSLOCK and ? keys? It's starting to get annoying. -Ryan |

What file are you talking about ?, I have created a file server file alert which watches the /var/adm/messages file for file system full messages, and sends me email via the alert when HYperic sees the message in the log file .. UNDER FILE SERVER FILE tab I seee the alert definition . In this window I see the CONTROL tab. If a click on it I can SELECT the RUN control option . What is it trying to run?? I see in the error box /var/adm/messages: cannot execute . Can you explain the function of CONTROL in this case of monitoring a log file ????? |

HQ 3.0 had an issue with discovery with the above resource types. This issue has been fixed and will be in the next release of HQ (I believe this is currently scheduled for mid April, but I may be mistaken). If you need this fix prior to that release, you can get the patch and instructions for applying it from the following bug. http://jira.hyperic.com/browse/HHQ-765 |

Change to file monitored through "Config Tracking" does not fire alerts
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: HHQ-783
URL: http://jira.hyperic.com/browse/HHQ-783
Project: Hyperic HQ
Type: Bug
Components: Alerts
Versions: 3.0.2
Environment: 3.0.2-EE Linux agent on 49er reporting in to hq.
Reporter: Chip Witt
Assigned to: Charles Lee
Fix For: 3.0.3
Configured 49er configuration tracking at Platform to monitor file /opt/test/testconf.conf. A "while true" loop changes file (appends new line) every 600 seconds. Change is recorded in Events Tracking section of Monitoring page as expected, but fails to cause alert to fire. Alert is set to fire at "ANY" event, and does fire as expected for log tracking events (like system login).

Hi Mike, The run command will execute the file as the agent user. There is a bug with 3.0.2 in that the control page does not refresh properly, but if you reload that page, or click on the [HISTORY] sub tab you should get some details on what happened. If all else fails, you can also check your agent log for any errors. -Ryan |

Hi Josh, Does the old agent you copied to the platform still have a data directory? If, so it won't ask for any connection parameters. -Ryan |

This problem was just fixed on Friday. Incidentally, this problem affects any resource type that auto-discovers server resources (as opposed to services). Those resource types would be Weblogic, WebSphere, MySQL and iPlanet. So anyone managing those resources with HQ 3.0.2 should apply this patch. http://jira.hyperic.com/browse/HHQ-765 |

Can anyone tell me how to re-add a platform with autodiscovery? I removed a platfrom from HQ, stopped the agent service, and uninstalled the service with the -u command. After that I deleted the agent directory from the platform and considered it "clean". I copied the agent folder back to the platform in question and ran hq-agent.exe in a CMD window but this time I didn't get any token negotiation or anything, it just said that the agent was running.. I'm guessing it still had the platforms information. How do I take a platform that was previously monitored by HQ and have it auto discover everything on that server and start monitoring it again? Thanks, Josh |

I have a very simple default alert setup for my Win32 platform and Linux platform. If Condition: Availability value changed Enable Action(s): Each time conditions are met. Both of these alerts appear in the dashboard when triggered. Both have the "Super Users" role attached to the notify section. However, only the Win32 alerts get emailed. |

Delay during start-up before login page appears
-----------------------------------------------
Key: HHQ-781
URL: http://jira.hyperic.com/browse/HHQ-781
Project: Hyperic HQ
Type: Bug
Components: Server
Versions: 3.0.2
Reporter: Noah Salzman
Assigned to: Charles Lee
Fix For: 3.1.0
At some point during 3.0.1 or 3.0.2 development we introduced a new delay at server startup. There is now a 10-20 second delay between the plugin deployment progress bar and the time the login dialog appears. During that delay if you refresh your browser window you get a blank white page.
