Hi Carl,
	I find it useful to use CDATA sections with javascript, e.g.

<script language="javascript">
	<![CDATA[<!--
		//body of script
	-->]]>
</script>

Perhaps this will help.  If you need to dynamically generate portions 
of the script, it can get a little ugly

<script language="javascript">
	<![CDATA[<!--
		//body of script
		var myVar = ']]><xsl:value-of select="$myVar"/><![CDATA[';
	-->]]>
</script>
